Year 5 wow at Peace Doves Concert
Our Year 5 children did an amazing job at last weekʼs Peace Dove Concert, filling the space with their beautiful voices. Singing
beneath thousands of delicate doves, created by the Tewkesbury community, was a truly breathtaking moment—a powerfulreminder of unity, hope, and the magic of music. Well done to all involved!
Our annual Abbey Easter service was a great success this week. Children told the story of Easter through three crosses that relate to the three special days of Easter: Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. A dramatized reading of PalmSunday was followed by poems about the Easter cross and why we call such a sad day ‘Good Friday’. Easter Sunday was marked through a celebratory song before we shared some of our learning about forgiveness this term through readings and prayers. As always, the children sang a number of powerful songs with much enthusiasm and this was all held together by some well-rehearsed narrators.
Following all this, Fr Nick played a game of Chinese Whispers with some keen volunteers and used this to help us understand the importance of telling others about the good news of Easter! Well done to all the children who sang, read lines and acted so wonderfully!
Harvest Festival
This week our school gathered at Trinity Church to celebrate our annual Harvest Festival, a much-loved event in our school calendar.
All year groups played their part, with Year 2 kicking us off by explaining the meaning of Harvest. Year 3 showed us how food makes its way from the fields to our tables, while Year 5 entertained us with a comical poem carrying a message, followed by a more thoughtful piece. Year 6 spoke about the work of Foodbanks across the country, before Simon Phillips, Associate Vicar at Trinity, reminded us that it is God who ultimately provides for us. Year 4 then led us in Harvest prayers.
There was plenty of singing throughout the service, including Harvest Song performed by KS1. The children spoke clearly and sang with confidence, making the event a real success and a wonderful time of coming together as a community.
ISingPop Concert Day!
iSingPop Brings Joy and Inspiration to Our School!
Last week, our school was filled with excitement as iSingPop instructors Sandy and Ellie joined us for a wonderful week of music, movement, and meaning. They worked closely with our children, teaching them new songs and dance routines while exploring the Christian values that inspired each piece — values that lie at the heart of our school community.
Since their visit, the children could be heard singing and practicing whenever there was a spare moment, eagerly preparing for Wednesday’s concerts. The afternoon performance was a joyful celebration, showcasing powerful singing and energetic, well-choreographed dance moves. Everyone was impressed by the children’s enthusiasm, teamwork, and confidence.
The evening concert at Trinity Church was even more atmospheric. With the dark nights drawing in, the children’s voices brought warmth and light to the space. Dressed in bright colours and iSingPop merchandise, they performed songs with messages of hope, caring for the world, God’s love, and the importance of integrity and faithfulness.
A special highlight came when Tewkesbury CofE staff joined the children on stage, and parents enthusiastically took part in the encore performance of “Together.” The parents just about managed to keep up — well done to them! Former pupils, spotted up on the balcony, added to the energy and joy as they sang along with passion and pride.
It truly was a fantastic and uplifting day for our whole school community. Though the iSingPop team have now moved on, their songs and the memories they created will continue to echo through our collective worship.
Christmas Abbey Carol Service 2025
Our whole school community—children, parents, carers, wider family and friends—packed into the wonderfully festive Abbey for our annual Christmas Carol Concert. In the beauty of this historic building, the Christmas Story was told as our nativity scene was gradually built up, piece by piece, in time with the narrative. Readings from the Bible, shared by members of the SLT and our Year 6 prefects, guided us through the well-loved story, while Worship Committee members read poems that drew out deeper meanings at key moments.
As always, our children’s singing was a highlight of the evening. Their carefully prepared songs filled the Abbey with warmth, and the whole congregation joined together to lift the roof with traditional carols, some accompanied by the magnificent organ. A particularly special moment was the opening of Once in Royal David’s City, led so confidently and beautifully by our brave child soloists. They were outstanding, as were the Prefects and Worship Committee, who read with clarity and eloquence throughout.
By the time Father Nick delivered his final address, the nativity scene stood complete, and we were all reminded of the story—and the person—at the heart of this season. Christmas in Tewkesbury truly begins with our Carol Concert, and this year was no exception!
