Reading
Practice is the only thing that can help a child to improve their reading. Please listen to your child read as often as you can to increase both their fluency and confidence. Comprehension is also very important and children should be able to answer a variety of questions about what they have read. Please sign your child’s reading diary when you have read with them even if they have not finished the book yet. We change books on a Monday and ask that they bring their book in every day in case they need to read with an adult.
It is very important that your child’s individual reading book is kept in the zip lock wallet provided to ensure we keep them protected and in the best condition possible.
Every Friday your child will bring home a ‘Shared Reader’, which they have chosen from our class library and would like to share with you at home. By modelling your love of reading to them you will support your child to develop their own love of reading. It is also simply a really lovely thing to do together.
Common Exception Words
Each half term your child will be given a set of common exception words to learn to read and spell. Common exception words are words that cannot be sounded out. They are words we just have to remember to read and write by sight. In Year 2, there are 60 words in total, which have been broken down into terms. These words are assessed at the end of each half term. Each half term, the focus spelings can be found attached to your child's reading record. Any practise, in both reading ans spelling these words, would be greatly appreciated. We will share some spelling activity ideas on Showbie.
Maths
Homework online at maths.co.uk
Every wekk, your child will have homework set that is based on maths learning from that week. It helps embed their new knowldge so they can progress throughout the year. If you have not yet had information on how to access this, please ask Mrs Ainsworth.
Uniform expectations
Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school uniform and appropriate shoes (no trainers). A polite reminder that children are only allowed to wear small, stud earrings and are not to wear nail varnish to school.
Trips
We have recently sent out letters about our trip to The Black Country Living Museum. We are currently working together to plan other trips and visitors throughout the year.
Parent Helpers
We are always looking for volunteers to hear readers. If you can offer any reading support, during the afternoons, please let us know.
