Isle Of Wight School Trip 2011
News - Wednesday 29th June.
We have had a very busy day starting with visit to Carisbrooke Castle. The weather
has been warm and sunny and the Castle looked magnificent. In the wellhouse we watched
a donkey in the wheel which was a real treat. He turned the wheel and raised the
bucket from deep below. After a stroll around the castle ramparts and a steep climb
to the keep from where a view of the entire island could be beheld, lunch was taken
in the calm surroundings of the castle gardens. The afternoon's activities were based
at St. Catherine's Point, the southern-most point of the island. The two groups went
their separate ways and on arrival at the beach the fossil hunting began! Several
children made some amazing finds, including ammonites, Fools' Gold and even some
bullet cases from World War II. Long walks in both directions were an opportunity
to take in the full beauty of our natural surroundings, including some wonderful
views of the nearby English Channel. The evening's activities began with diary writing
and concluded with great fun on the beach. Another good day.
