On Saturday morning, Mr Jeffries and I travelled down to Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School in Wotton-Under-Edge to attend the County Cross Country finals. Tewkesbury C of E had 5 children qualify for this event.
The children not only had to compete against 75 other competitors in their races but also against the bitterly cold wind and water logged ground. The dreadful conditions were a clear contrast to last year’s crystal blue skies and warm temperatures. Even though the children were hampered by the conditions they all performed brilliantly and represented the school in the best possible way showing grit and determination throughout.
It is important to remember that while each child runs individually within their race they are still very much part of a wider community. It was this sense of community, respect and duty which made one of our runners stop mid race in order to support an injured athlete; forsaking their own chance for a better finishing position. It is this show of fine character that we ultimately try to instil into our children within all of our sporting events.
Congratulations to William, Bailey, Chloe and Freya! All four of you should be immensely proud of what you have achieved!
