The children have embraced this Christmas week in all good spirit. The relocation of our Carol Service to Holy Trinity Church on Wednesday started our celebrations. With little to no time to rehearse the children read and sang triumphantly. How brave was our soloist Rebecca Burrows! The service ended with the younger children using the sign language of Makaton to ‘Silent Night’ which was really special. Thank you parents for accommodating the change of day and venue. These challenges are sent to try us.

Thursday morning the KS1 parents and relatives were treated to the Nativity play ‘A Little Bird Told Me’ led by the Reception classes. Remembering that most of the Reception class children are still only 4 years old they owned the stage! Year 1 & 2 accompanied the story by singing a number of chirpy festive songs.

Christmas Message

Our children are very fortunate to be cared for by so many people; parents, grandparents, uncles, aunties, teachers, teaching assistants, dinner ladies, office staff, governors, etc. They talk about what Father Christmas will be bringing them and who they will be visiting over the holiday. But when I ask them what would they prefer at Christmas, a toy or family? They all responded unanimously with family. So take heart that your children see you as the true gifts of Christmas. Enjoy this time, myself and the staff wish you all a peaceful New Year.

Finally please remember that Monday 7th January 2019 is an INSET day and the children are due back on Tuesday 8th January 2019.

News

This week we said our final farewells to our much loved colleague Alison Parry. Alison was the schools secretary for over 24 years. She ran the office with her particular Scottish style and was often the first face that generation of parents and children saw in the morning. She also hid her own light under a bushel as she was a teacher and an accomplished musician playing the piano. She was a wife, mother and a grandmother. However to us she was Alison the front face of the office who made us laugh with her wry sense of humour. She will be missed beyond the boundaries of her family. Our thoughts are with her family and our respects are with Alison. God Bless.
Sporting victory
The Autumn term has seen a number of sporting achievements by the children of Tewkesbury C of E. Our children have competed in a series of football events and a netball tournament. Within football, both the Year 5 & 6 boy’s and girl’s football teams secured first place in the local Tewkesbury ESFA tournament. This victory allowed them to take part in the county finals against teams from Cheltenham, Gloucester, Dursley and many more. Both teams played splendidly and the Year 5 & 6 girls finished 3rd in the county, which was a tremendous achievement and one which they should be proud of. Our eyes now fall to the spring term where we are to take part in the year 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 football league finals and many other tournaments and competitions.

All the way from Cairo Yasmina of Cairo
A video of the event is available to view on the following link https://youtu.be/_2QYI2SG6TI
Many thanks to Mr Fisher, Mr Hughes and Ms Morelli for arranging the charity event for the school. The amount raised was £320.40.

County Finals

Some brilliant footwork from the Girl’s football team this week as they represented Tewkesbury at the County Finals Football competition. The girls played fantastically and while we just missed out on going to the regional finals it is a pleasure to have secured 3rd place in the whole County!

Year 5 sing Livin’ on a Prayer

Pupils in Year 5 sing ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ at the end of their music unit about Bon Jovi and classic rock music. They have worked hard this term and have developed their ability to harmonise with each other, as well as control their vocal timbre to be loud but without shouting. Have a listen by below.
