Unfortunately parking has become an issue again around Chance Street and Rope Walk. During recent years we have worked tirelessly with the local authority to be given free parking for dropping off and collection of our children. More recently the campaign by parents to have our crossing patrol warden reinstated has resulted in a much improved facility of new road signs and road markings thanks to Councillor Cromwell. Despite this, several parents are continuing to drive and park illegally in Rope Walk and there has been another incident where a child could have been struck by a vehicle. To keep all our children safe we need all parents and visitors to work together and use the free parking facilities in the Cascades car park. It is not acceptable to use the excuse that parents are in a rush to go on to work (the vast majority of all our parents go onto work). Today we have started a log to record those vehicles parking illegally in the turning bay and will be forwarding this onto the Police. It is disappointing that we are finding it necessary to do this to keep all the children safe. I hope that those parents who are parking illegally give another thought to the fairness and message they are giving to their children when they park, putting others at risk.

Crossing Patrol

Unfortunatley there will be no crossing patrol on Barton Street on Friday 3rd November morning and afternoon and Tuesday 28th November in the afternoon.

Parents Evening Wishes

Thank you for some of your many suggestions and I hope the above statement goes some way to addressing many of the concerns about parking.

Starting Time

Increasingly some of the older children are arriving at school as early as 8.00am, we do not open the school until 8.30am. There is no adult supervision for your child when arriving this early.

At the end of the Autumn term Mrs Meadows (Year 3) will be retiring. She has been with this school for a number of years having had a variety of roles including senior leadership. She has been instrumental in environmental studies and has led the children in many a successful wheelbarrow Britain in Bloom entry. She has always been a champion for the pupil voice. The children and the school will miss her but wish her a restful retirement. During parents evening, parents from Mrs Meadows class were able to meet our new appointment, Mr Stagg.

School Photographs

Tuesday 7th November is individual and family photograph day. If you would like family photographs please come from 8.15am into the hall. Brothers and sisters in school will automatically have family groups and individual photographs taken. You have no obligation to purchase the photographs.

PATA Training

We have the opportunity for 10 free places on the PATA introduction to childs play course. This course normally costs £80. It is a 6 week course of 2 hour sessions. These will be delivered in the Community Centre by a PATA leader.

Join us for this hands-on, practical course which looks at play from the child’s perspective, exploring why children need to play and how they learn from it. You will develop a folder of ideas, information, resources and recipes and will be involved with other students in practical activities and discussions, sharing experiences and exchanging ideas.

  • The course is 6 hours in total and includes:
  • Child development
  • The role of the adult
  • Health and safety
  • Equal opportunities
  • Practical play activities; using paint, natural and recycled materials, food and snacks, stories and music, playdough, developing imaginative play.

The course is suitable for parents wanting ideas and skills for improving play with their children and anyone wanting to work with children. It is an excellent course for anyone looking to volunteer in a toddler group or seeking work in any early years setting, or as a pre-course activity for a higher level early years qualification. Due to the limited places please contact me if you are interested.
