Newsletter #20 – 10/3/17

Our day started with a wonderfully led assembly by Year 4 Mr Hibell’s class. Their theme was citizenship. The children started by linking hands to the Olympic song. It was very moving. Year 3 have enjoyed a Roman Day and were all dressed as Roman citizens! The day included cooking and sampling Roman foods.
Governors Corner
New community Centre
The governing body had been considering setting up a pre-school when last year, we were approached by the Local Authority to take over Noah’s Ark Childrens Centre, adjacent to the school. We saw this as a wonderful opportunity and under the supervision of Miss Rowland, a new pre-school team led by Mrs McMahon was formed. The creative curriculum of the Reception class has been rolled out to the pre-school. We opened the pre-school in September 2016 with just 5 children and now, six months on, have 24. Currently it is open for funded places mornings only but due to its growth and parent demand this will be extended to whole days with fee paying places available. Our aim is to have wrap around care from 8.00am (breakfast club) to 6.00pm (after school provision). We will formally manage the centre from 1 April 2017 when we will be providing additional facilities for both the school and local community.
The centre will then change its name to the ‘Tewkesbury C of E Primary School Community Centre’. Some of the facilities on offer to the community will be an internet café, conference room, hire of various spaces within the centre, senior citizens lunchtime club, extension of health care from 0 to school (health visitor clinic) and music. Both the interior and exterior will have a revamp which will include an astro-turf play area. This has been an exciting opportunity which will enable children who attend to have amazing learning opportunities and make the transition from pre-school to school life far easier. Thanks to all the staff and governors who have been involved in this venture.
If you have pre-school children who will need a place either now or from September 2017 please contact the school
at the earliest opportunity.
