The children looked very festive in their Christmas jumpers this morning. Taking my usual walk aroundthe school I was greetedwith children totally engrossed with traditional board games. The sound of rolling dice, shrills of triumph and social cooperation was a delight to witness in a world of computer games played in solitude.
We end the year reflecting on triumphs in sport and in academics. I am often complimented by visitors to the school,on the happy, friendly atmosphere and creative curriculum within the school. Recently our year 6 children showcased
the school to new parents talking endlessly about their experiences here over
the last 5 years. They talked of the residentials, arts weeks, choir trips to the
O2, visiting Elmstree studios and seeing Dawn French, IT facilities, trips, dressing up days, great teachers and even their maths and literacy learning. We are an inclusive school and our working practices reflect this.
This year we have made improvements in communication with parents. The newsletter will shortly be distributed by email, the website and paper versions are held in the school office. I would urge parents to be more pro-active i
n accessing the newsletter as all too often parents will say they didn’t know cer
tain events were happening. Many suggestions made through the parents forum
group have also improved communications.
I would like to thank the PTFA who have raised a staggering £11,000 with support from the previous PTFA. These funds will go towards items and experiences for the children (KS1 trim trail) that would not have otherwise been possible.
I would like to thank all the staff in their varied roles of teacher, teaching assistant, office, lunchtime supervisor, caretaker or cleaner. We are a strong team which benefits the children’s experience here.
Thank you for all your kind Christmas gifts to the staff and myself. It is very generous and thoughtful.
Finally, we have welcomed many new staff, children and parents all of whom shaped our school community. Sadly we have also experienced the loss of close ones in our community. As I said in my address at the KS2 praise assembly ‘let us think about those who cannot be with us at Christmas and enjoy those
who are’. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Inset date change

Due to matters beyond our control the INSET day for Friday 17th March 2017 has been changed to Monday 16th January 2017. We apologise for any inconvenience and would hope that 1 months notice will help prepare for childcare provision.

Crossing Patrol Warden

We have appointed a new crossing patrol warden for Chance Street starting in the New Year.

A Reminder – After School Club Parking

A reminder please that the staff car park should not be used by parents picking up from after school clubs. Last Tuesday evening was particularly overwhelming and dangerous as children who walk alone had to navigate the ‘wacky Races’ scene in the car park. I will be leaving the gates locked on Tuesdays to prevent this happening again. We are only considering the safety and welfare ofyour children.

Parent Prayer Group

We have had a very positive response to the parent prayer group and Mr Scorer will be releasing details in the new year.

Pre-School

Our pre-school is increasing weekly with new children joining. We have Free Funded

places available for all 2, 3 and 4 year olds. The Pre-School team is led by Miss Rowland and Mrs McMahon and supported by Mrs Hughes, Miss Hewett, Miss Smith and Miss Merriman.

If you have a pre-school aged child why not drop by and see the team and view the amazing learning experiences.

Firstly I would like to offer a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the Christmas Fayre. We look forward to announcing thegrand total next week. There are still many unclaimed prizes at the school office. We will keep the prizes for one calender month (9th January 2017) when, thereafter, they will be inclu ded into the next school prize draw. If you have the winning ticket please come and claim your prize.
It has been another action packed week! Year 3 visited Holy Trinity to ‘Experience Christmas’. This is something that the children really enjoy with the staff of Holy Trinity. Reception have had a lovely time at Smart Trees in Evesham as have Year 2 at the Black Country museum.
Year 2 Visit the Black Country Museum
Year 2 Visit the Black Country Museum
Year 5 have also enjoyed a wonderful experience at Skill Zone. The Carol Service at the Abbey was delightful. The children read their readings clearly and sang sweetly. Which is perhaps more than could be said for the staff chorus of ‘I wish it could be Christmas’ it was all good seasonal fun which the children appreciated.
The early years corridors were full of shepherds, kings, twinkling stars and even a donkey as the Nativity dress rehearsal got under way. The children and staff have achieved a great deal this autumn term and deserve a well earned rest this Christmas.
My thanks and those of the Governors go to all our staff in acknowledgement of their work. (cleaning staff, kitchen staff, lunchtime supervisors, teaching assistants, teachers, support staff.) I wish you all a happy Christmas and pray for a peaceful New Year, here and around the world.

newsletterNews

In the last newsletter I reported how victorious the Year 4 maths team were. This time I am reporting on the Year 5 team who represented the school in a maths tournament in Cheltenham last week. Again they competed against a number of state, private and prep schools. I am extremely proud to announce for the second time, that our school was victorious as they too took first place overall! An amazing achievement. Schools in Cheltenham are now asking who is Tewkesbury C of E Primary school ? The team were Jack Bennett, Adam Banfield, Zuzanna Kula and Isabelle Beauchamp – well done!

Over 200 parents registered their email addresses during the parents evenings. If you would still like to register and receive the newsletter by email in the future please do so at the main office.

This week and last week we opened our school to over 60 new parents of children starting in September 2017. Our prefects led tours of the school and we had some wonderful feedback about their knowledge and enthusiasm for the school.

Our Christmas tree went up after school on Wednesday evening by the male members of staff much to the amusement of on lookers! Today the tree will be decorated by the children. This week we also welcome our new site manager Simon Horsley.

Christmas Fayre

A reminder that our Christmas fayre is straight after school on Friday until 5.30pm. The children have made many quality crafts this year. Obviously Father Christmas will also be visiting and the children can post a letter with their wishes to him and have their photograph taken. Hot mince pies and pizza will be served too.

Abbey Carol service

This is a lovely service at the Abbey that really does signal Christmas is here. A reminder to parents, particularly our new parents that all the children walk from the school with the staff to the Abbey. Parents form part of the congregation (seating plan has been given out) after the service the children can go home with parents or a designated adult. As the space is restricted the children do not bring school bags into the service so we are reminding parents that pack lunches should be in a plastic disposable bag.

Disco

The Christmas disco is on Wednesday 14th December . KS1 (Reception classes, year 1 & year 2 ) is straight after school at 3.30pm – 4.30pm They can bring their disco clothes to school to get changed into. KS2 (years 3,4,5 & 6) disco starts at 4.45pm to 6.00pm. Tickets and consent forms are available from the school office from Tuesday 6th December. The cost is £2.50 per ticket.

Book Fair

From Friday 9th December to Wednesday 14th December we will be having the book fair in the school hall between the times of 3.30pm -4.30pm.

Crossing Patrol Warden

Currently two staff members are carrying out the crossing partrol warden duties in Chance Street. This is only a temporary measure until a new appointment is made. Both ladies will be standing down in the new year and unless we have a successful applicant we will not have a crossing warden from 1st January 2017. As you know we fought to keep a warden in place until the summer of 2017 when the council will be reviewing the need. I will readvertise the position but would ask if anyone knows of a suitable person who may wish to apply for the position be encouraged to do so as soon as posible.

Christmas Tree Offer

All our parents have been offered a 10% discount on Christmas trees from the Tewkesbury Car Wash at Shuthonger in partnership with Cornerways Nurseries. Just say the code word C of E and you will receive your 10% discount.
